Lovington will be traveling to Santa Fe to take on the St Michaels Horseman for the 3A state championship. These teams are similar in that they are both young and both have Jr quarterbacks leading their offense. Lovington has beaten the Horseman the last 4 times they have met in the post season including the 2004 State Championship. The only common opponent the two teams have are the Robertson Cardinals. Lovington beat the Cardinals 41-6 in the second week of the season while the Horseman beat them the following week 10-0 in what is one of their big rivalry games.
The Horseman are undefeated for the first time in their school's history at 12-0 and haven't lost a game since last year's 42-26 quarterfinal loss to the Wildcats. Their offense comes in averaging 36 points per game and has scored in double digits every game except for yesterday's 8-7 semifinal win over Hope Christian. The Horseman defense has been equally impressive giving up only 7 points per game while posting 2 shutouts.
Lovington will be making its 22nd state championship appearance while looking to get its 18th blue trophy. This is the first time the Cats have gone to the finals 4 years in a row and they will be looking to get their 2nd 3-peat in school history. St. Michaels will be looking to get its 5th state championship and 1st since 2007.

Great article about some of the history between Lovington and St. Michaels written by Dan Ford. For those of you who don't know who Dan Ford is, he is a historian of New Mexico High School Football. He has written two books which can be purchased from his website. Below is a link to his article for Saturday's game. Good to see he picked the Wildcats to win! www.danfordsports.net/

I hope Lovington kicks the out of St.Mikes. I don't like those guys. Lovington just plays a tougher schedule and are more prepare for these types of games. I will be very surprise if Lovington doesn't win. Go Cats!!!!!

Whats the official gametime, theres different sources citing it at 12, others at 1 and others at 2. does anyone know the actual time? I think the first few minutes will be crucial, st. mikes looks highly motivated to be playing lovington. If lvt can hold their ground for the first two drives on offense and defense, they should be good to go. st. mikes schedule makes their record a little overrated. But it doesnt matter at this point its the one loss to lovington that will count. Lvt wins, who knows by how much but they will bring home the trophy. And everyone be careful on the roads.

Safe travels to everyone heading to the game this weekend. If the weather is bad I think this will benefit Lovington with their defense playing well right now. My prediction is Lovington pulls it out on the leg of Eric Garcia 10-7.

Congratulations to the Wildcats on bringing home the 18th State Championship and the 3rd in a row. Great game by both teams and Lovington was able to make the plays when it mattered most. Defensively the Cats held the Horsemen 26 points below their average. Eric Osborn had another huge game with many big hits and Patrick Ganaway came up with a big pass break up in the end to seal the win. Ganaway also had a big punt return to help setup a Lovington touchdown. Offensively there were several contributors as always. The offensive line did an exceptional job paving the way for the Cats. Against many naysayers this team proved that they belong alongside all the other championship teams Lovington has had. Congratulations to the seniors as you are only the 2nd class to 3-peat!!!

Congrats to the Wildcats on their 3-Peat and bringing home #18. Def a team effort. Congrats to the coaches/players/fans/town for another State title. St.Mikes is crying about how lovington went in front of St.Mikes players and were holding up the number 3. Well to me they were just telling them what was about to happen. Does anyone have a pic of that? I would love for someone to post it up on here so we can put it on the front page!!! The bus will be here at 3 and everyone is going to be on Main Street. Once again Congrats to the Lovington Wildcats. Dat a way to whoop that Horseman's ASS!!!

St. Mikes is now finding things to complain about because they lost. It was their crowd that was chanting "we cant hear you". I ran into an older man by the concession stand and even he was telling me that the st mikes o line and d line was soft. He said they were tall but they weren't that impressive. He said their schedule only was like that because they played lesser quality opponents. Tell me something i don't know, but he was realistic. I think they were more in denial. What that man said was true though, lvt's o line really had control. They had some plays that werent successfull but we knew it was a matter of time. After the first half I thought it would be like the 03 title game where the refs made some bad calls. The d line and backers managed to make plays in the backfield. Their crowd wanted a flag on the last play of their offensive series, but Gannaway broke that play up without creating a penaly (excellent job). They play in lovington in week three next season, and the coach from st mikes said he cant wait. Well so cant we, so the but whipping will be bigger. And again they will see that a team with size wont hang against a team with heart.

That's funny about thier fan at the concession stand. I guess he spoke the truth like Getit. Did he say he couldn't wait till week 3 after the game? What is that going to do for him, even if St.Mikes does win, we'll take the Title over a worthless win in week 3 but not surprised they even said that. Maybe they'll schedule Aztec/Belen or even Valencia to get get ready for the playoffs, instead of patting thier record just to get a bye.

Congrats to Coach Q and the rest of the Wildcats. We lost to the Horseman in 1972 and it is good to see that we beat them this year. Great job!
